Tumblr: A Social Media Juggernaut

With certain social media platforms (not ALL of them,) it is just as important to be present as it is to partake; this is the case with Tumblr. The famed micro-blogging site has a ton to offer to the uninitiated. And while its popularity may be a tad generational, we think anyone who loves the internet and what it contains can get something out of it. Just read on below to learn more:

What is Tumblr?

Are you ready to “tumble”? As stated above, Tumblr is a micro-blogging site where users can write about anything they like. It’s extremely popular; there are well over 100 million posts up on Tumblr at any given time. Access it via the website or the free apps available for iOS and Android.

There are several ways to dive in and immerse yourself in the Tumblr universe. The easiest way might be to click on the “Explore” tab, and select a topic that interests you. Cats, art deco, puff pastry, vintage cars—there is genuinely something for everyone here. It’s also possible to find your friends and favorite brands here. Authorize Gmail, Facebook, or Twitter on your account and contacts will pop up (if they already exist on Tumblr).

Why Should My Business Be on a Social Media Platform Like Tumblr?

It’s a worthy question. Tumblr has a clear ROI for individual users, and it’s a ton of fun, but what about brands? Should they also risk dipping their toes into the Tumblr pool? Here’s the secret: the answer is yes, but only if your brand can adapt to Tumblr’s culture and work to fit in.

One of the platform’s biggest claims to fame is its lack of advertising. People are not on Tumblr to be sold to; if anything, they’re there to learn and be entertained. It’s also worth seeing what’s most popular here. Fashion, for example, is HUGE, as are niche interests like memes and breakfast cereals. Don’t dive into Tumblr without taking the time to understand it—or, as we would recommend, working with a social media expert who is already properly familiar.
